The Best Apps for HogWild Guests

Despite the current global situation, we’ve still been hard at work in the field here at Hog Wild -- as it turns out, being outdoors is one of the best things you can do for yourself during this time for a number of reasons; not the least of which is that recent studies have shown the risk for COVID-19 transfer to be lower outside.

If you follow our blog, you’ll probably already know that Hog Hunting is a safe activity that can be done with social distancing in mind. For today’s entry, since you’re probably still looking for some things to do, we thought we’d share a few of our favorite hunting-related apps that would be practical for your next visit to Hog Wild! Get yourself set up with a few of these, and get on down here to take in some of that fresh Oklahoman air.

1. Wild Hog Calls

This app is pretty straightforward and easy to use, and functions as a great e-caller for the price ($2.99) -- the only recommendation that we would make in conjunction with downloading this app would be to acquire a better speaker than what your phone has built in. The recorded sounds are of good quality, and while boar ears may be pretty sensitive, they’re probably not going to fall too easily for what’s coming from those tiny phone speakers. Again, this app is well worth the small cost, and is very user-friendly.

2. Huntstand

A lot of hunters use the app ONX Hunt, and that one is great for mapping and staying within the property lines of certain hunts. For a hunting experience like what you’ll get at Hog Wild, we’d recommend something more along the lines of Huntstand -- this app provides you with an immense amount of detail (including what ONX Hunt can provide) plus it will give you a powerful set of tools including distance measuring features and advanced weather/radar visuals. The hunting is great in Oklahoma, but having a powerful weather tool can prove to be extremely valuable when you are in the field.

3. Huntwise

We’re loving this app a LOT right now -- particularly because it functions as its own social media platform. You may be getting tired of some of those Facebook groups you belong to that are dedicated to hunting because of all of the other stuff jammed in around it. Well, if you need to get your mind on the hunt that you’re excited about, join a much larger conversation and get inspired before you pay us a visit! You may even find some discussions surrounding experiences with us here at Hog Wild! There are also maps and other great features built into this app that will be practical for your visit.

Once you’ve had the chance to take a look at a few of these, why not put them to greater use and have a guided or semi-guided hunt here at Hog Wild? Nearby Oklahoma City is beginning to reopen some of their establishments with safety precautions in place… it’s still very much worth a visit, and something fun (and safe) for the whole family to do!
