Hog Meat is Delicious

We often talk about how great hog hunting is, here. Of course we would! There are a lot of (we think) common sense reasons for this to be the case. Hunting is a marvelous and ancient sport that can put you in touch with something baser about yourself -- moreover, it’s a great builder of camaraderie between friends, family members and those in relationships.

But what is it about hog hunting that most people don’t know? There are a lot of things you may not know about Hog Hunting that contribute to the fact that it’s a great outing all year round!

#1 -- There are a LOT of hogs in Oklahoma (and they cause problems)
It’s not super common knowledge that there are as many as 6 million feral hogs in the United States. It’s probably even less commonly known that up to 1.6 million of those hogs are located in Oklahoma!

We mentioned above that these feral hogs cause problems. What exactly does that mean?

Unfortunately, feral swine can be absolutely devastating to agriculture and crops -- they eat, and we mean overeat tubers, plants, grasses and root into the ground upwards of 6 inches which can be extremely damaging to crops made for humans and other animals. Quite simply, feral hogs are a nuisance. A great reason to get out there and hunt!

#2 -- There is no hunting season for hogs
This might be one of the best things about hog hunting! No limits, no season… feral hogs are considered to be pests, and there is a serious effort in Oklahoma geared towards harvesting them.

Because there is no season, you don’t have to wait all year like you generally do for, say, football to start back up again, or for deer season to show up. You can come by Hog Wild and do a safe, inexpensive and super fun hunt all year round!

#3 -- Hog Meat is Delicious (and Safe)!
There are a lot of fantastic recipes out there for wild hog-based meals. A lot of people are concerned (and somewhat rightfully so) about disease that can be imparted from the consumption of this meat.

Well, we’re here to tell you that as long as you use safe field dressing techniques and practice good sanitary cooking in the kitchen, you can make some great and safe meals. One of the most important things is making sure you cook your meat to the appropriate internal temperature.
